I also write for the blog/IRL Paper "The Carl", cause newsprint has a great right off the press smell that a blog doesn't. Check it out, there are a lot of talented writers on staff this year,
The Carl
also, I think it's time to post my first find. I'm probably one of the biggest fans of"
LUCY MICHELLE AND THE VELVET LAPELLES (http://www.myspace.com/lucymichell)
These guys were the biggest surprise of the year for me, after seeing them live once I was hooked. Hard to describe as anything other than "indie rock" they're far more. Lucy's voice is rich and smooth, they have a plethora of interesting instruments from Uke to Vibes, Upright Bass, Piano, Accordion, and more, and the songwriting is genius and SOULFUL.
if you haven't yet download their album "orange peels and rattlesnakes" it's a debut (I think) and it features some great tracks like "osbick bird," to be honest though, every track on the album is listenable and catchy.
Both Northwind Shore and The Wake did some good pieces on them; check it out

but still, don't take my word for it, check them out
